ABOUT THE EVENT

Effective psychotherapy sometimes requires moving beyond cognition alone to include the body, nervous system, creativity, and lived experience.

If you have ever wanted to expand your therapeutic toolkit to include creative interventions, now is the time! In this training Amber Priestley, LMFT, is digging into how to ethically apply practical, creative, and somatic approaches to your therapy practice to promote emotional regulation, self-expression, nervous system awareness, and client engagement!

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify ethical considerations when integrating somatic, music, and visual art interventions into psychotherapy practice.

  • Differentiate between expressive/creative interventions used therapeutically versus formal creative arts therapies requiring specialized credentials.

  • Describe how creative and somatic approaches may support emotional regulation, self-expression, nervous system awareness, and client engagement.

  • Recognize appropriate clinical applications, contraindications, and scope-of-practice boundaries related to experiential interventions.

  • Apply practical, low-risk creative and body-based techniques that can be ethically integrated into existing psychotherapy approaches.

  • Increase awareness of informed consent, cultural considerations, documentation, and client safety when utilizing experiential modalities.

  • Develop greater confidence in incorporating movement, music, visual expression, and sensory-based interventions into clinical work in ethically responsible ways
