Divorce is Difficult! Untangle the divorce process with a psychologist and family law attorney.
Navigating a client’s divorce can be challenging for therapists, requiring both legal awareness and ethical clarity. This seminar--co-presented by a psychologist, and a family law attorney and mediator--provides essential knowledge to help therapists effectively support clients through separation and divorce. Attendees will gain insight into the legal process, the roles of various professionals, and how to maintain ethical boundaries while assisting clients.

Understand the legal process for divorcing and separating families.
Identify the roles of different professionals involved in divorce and separation.
Distinguish between supporting and advocating for a client.
Recognize common misperceptions held by clients and therapists about divorce.

Meet the Speakers:
Terri Bly, PsyD, LP
Dr. Bly is a licensed clinical psychologist with over eight years of experience working with couples and families affected by divorce. She has extensive training in divorce mediation, high-conflict co-parenting, and collaborative divorce. Dr. Bly completed her 40-hour training in client-centered divorce mediation at the Erickson Mediation Institute, as well as the 28-hour High-Conflict Co-Parenting course presented by Overcoming Barriers and William James College. She also completed Level 1 and 2 training in Collaborative Divorce through the Collaborative Law Institute of Minnesota and served as a Divorce Neutral for two years. Dr. Bly has developed therapy programs for families experiencing post-separation resist-refuse dynamics and continues to work with individuals and families navigating divorce.
Carl Arnold, JD
Mr. Arnold has over 20 years of experience as a family law attorney and mediator. He has led foundational family mediation trainings, co-teaches a negotiation and mediation college course, and has served as President of the Collaborative Law Institute of Minnesota. He frequently speaks at legal seminars on family law and alternative dispute resolution.
