ABOUT THE EVENT
First responders face extraordinary pressures that shape their mental health, relationships, and engagement in therapy. This seminar helps clinicians build the insight and skills needed to serve this population with confidence, cultural sensitivity, and clinical effectiveness.
Led by Emma Murphy, MSW, LICSW, participants will explore the specifics of first responder care, including trust-building, late cancellations, firearm policies, chronic exposure to trauma, and other logistical considerations. We will discuss how these distinct challenges ripple through family systems and relationships, and how to respond with systemic, trauma-informed care.
Learning Objectives:
Identify key factors that differentiate working with first responders from other populations in a therapeutic setting.
Apply culturally competent approaches when working with these populations to build trust and improve therapeutic outcomes
Discuss unique clinical considerations, such as late cancellations, firearm policies, and other logistical challenges, when working with these populations.
Examine the impact of first responder life on family dynamics and interpersonal relationships.
Implement effective trauma treatment strategies tailored to the experiences and needs of these populations.
Develop self-care practices for therapists working with high-intensity trauma cases to prevent burnout and maintain professional well-being.
