Secure Base Seminar Room, 500 Professional Dr, Northfield, MN 55057, USA

ABOUT THE EVENT

More than just a set of skills, DBT is built on a foundation that explains the profound impact of traumatic invalidation and how to make compassionate, trauma-informed referrals to help clients create a "Life Worth Living." At the center of this framework is the Biosocial Theory, which describes how biology and environment interact to contribute to emotional dysregulation and relational difficulties.

This seminar will equip therapists with a deeper understanding of these dynamics, offering practical strategies to recognize invalidation in clients, reduce stigma, and make more effective treatment decisions—whether through direct intervention or thoughtful referral. Participants will leave with the knowledge to apply DBT’s theoretical principles in ways that honor and validate the lived experiences of their clients.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the core components of the Biosocial Theory and its foundational role in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).

  • Identify the characteristics and clinical impact of traumatic invalidation on clients.

  • Explain how the DBT framework, particularly its theoretical underpinnings, aims to address and mitigate the effects of traumatic invalidation.

  • Formulate compassionate, effective, and trauma-informed referral strategies for clients who may benefit from DBT, thereby reducing the risk of further invalidation and stigma.

About the Speaker:

Haley Raifsnider, MS, LPCC is a counselor with advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy. She brings a deep commitment to trauma-informed, compassionate care and helps clinicians integrate DBT’s theoretical framework into ethical and effective practice.
